## Direct-match strengths

Hands-on founder and engineering leadership, 0-to-1 AI platform creation, prototype-to-production execution, architecture, cloud infrastructure, data systems, security, reliability, hiring, roadmaps, build-vs-buy decisions, enterprise customers, regulated technology, and applied AI.

## Hard or material gaps

The end employer is unnamed, and the exact on-site/hybrid cadence is not disclosed. Keith has direct data-heavy AI platform experience, but robotics-specific engineering is not established and is contextual rather than mandatory.

## Evidence map

1. Build and scale production software systems (weight 3, evidence 3/3) — Built multiple commercial platforms and took AssistX from concept and code to production.
2. Hands-on technical strategy and architecture (weight 3, evidence 3/3) — Direct architecture, coding, roadmap, infrastructure, security, and operating ownership.
3. Grow and lead an early-stage engineering team (weight 3, evidence 3/3) — Recruited and technically led 11 engineers in a founder-led company.
4. Backend, cloud, data, and modern AI/ML breadth (weight 3, evidence 3/3) — Direct Python, APIs, distributed systems, AWS, data platforms, GenAI, RAG, and agents.
5. Prototype-to-production quality, testing, security, and uptime (weight 3, evidence 3/3) — Direct release, evaluation, guardrail, observability, security, and 99.9% availability evidence.
6. Customer/research input into product roadmaps (weight 2, evidence 3/3) — Direct customer discovery, early-user validation, product prioritization, and earlier scientific software work.
7. Enterprise or regulated customers (weight 2, evidence 3/3) — Direct financial-services, healthcare, government, privacy, and FDA-cleared software experience.
8. Robotics systems exposure (weight 1, evidence 1/3) — AI automation and data-intensive platforms are direct; robotics engineering is not claimed.

## Keyword diagnostic

Direct alignment with the hands-on builder mandate, early-stage engineering organization, AI/data platform architecture, production hardening, hiring, and enterprise readiness.

## Full normalized job description

Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
An early-stage software company building tools for technical teams working with AI and robotics systems, helping them manage complex data and workflows to build more reliable automated systems. Moving from early prototypes and customer proof points into a production-grade platform, they need a CTO to build the engineering organisation and product to get them there.
About the Role
A hands-on leadership role owning technical strategy, architecture, engineering execution, and hiring across product engineering, infrastructure, and applied AI.
This is a builder's role first and a manager's role second. You'll set the technical direction, shape the architecture, grow the engineering team, and stay hands-on enough to catch problems before they become expensive.
Expect to move between big-picture decisions and the occasional deep dive into the codebase, and to work closely with founders, customers, and the research side of the business. It's not a job for someone who wants to run engineering from a distance, you need to genuinely understand what's being built and why.
Core Responsibilities
Shape the platform's architecture and turn early-stage prototypes into dependable, production-ready systems
Grow and lead the engineering function, covering everything from core infrastructure to applied research integration
Set the standards the team works to — quality, testing, security, uptime
Decide what to build versus what to buy, and turn customer and research input into a coherent roadmap
Take ownership of data handling, security, and the operational maturity needed to serve larger customers
Act as the technical face of the company for customers, partners, and investors
What They Need
A track record of building and scaling real-world software systems, not just prototypes
Broad technical range — backend engineering, cloud infrastructure, data systems, and modern AI/ML
Experience running engineering teams somewhere early-stage and fast-moving
Sound judgement on tradeoffs — architecture, technical debt, hiring, sequencing
The ability to bridge research thinking and production discipline without mixing the two up
Someone with genuine ownership, minimal ego, and solid follow-through
Bonus Points
Exposure to intelligent systems, automation, or data-heavy technical products
Experience serving enterprise or highly regulated customers
Background untangling messy, large-scale, or multimodal data pipelines
Having actually taken something from first customer to repeatable, scalable delivery
