This directory contains the latest versions of the Unix distribution
of PARI/GP. It contains the latest released version pari-1.39
(and also pari-1.37 and pari-1.38 for history's sake)
as well as the development version (pari-1.39.xx) which is regularly
updated. The pari-1.39a.tar.gz contains the patch correcting the bug
contained in the release, hence the file pari-1.39.tar.gz has been
removed.

For people wanting to use the readline facilities (unnecessary
if you work under emacs), take also readline.tar.gz. Both files pari-1.xx.tar
and readline.tar will create a subdirectory structure under pari-1.39,
so they must be untarred at the same place.

This directory contains also some precompiled versions of gp (gpxxxx.gz).
If you take those, you will still need the source in order to get the
documentation, and you will be lacking the C library. Note also that some
of these versions are not yet up to date.

Note that development versions should be considered systematically 
as beta software. Also, please do not spread too much beta versions.
However, some bugs in the released versions are corrected there.

The files are compressed using gzip, which you can find in the same directory.
